China's energy self-sufficiency rate is expected to increase to 84.6% in 2026
The National High end Think Tank China Petroleum Group Economic and Technological Research Institute has released the "Review and Prospect of Domestic and Foreign Petroleum and Petrochemical Markets in 2025" to the public. According to estimates, by 2026, China's total energy consumption will reach 6.35 billion tons of standard coal, domestic energy production will reach 5.37 billion tons of standard coal, and the energy self-sufficiency rate will increase to 84.6%.
By 2025, China's ability to ensure energy security will steadily consolidate and improve. By 2025, the domestic energy production will be approximately 5.2 billion tons of standard coal, with an energy self-sufficiency rate of 84.4%.

Wu Mouyuan, Vice President of the China Petroleum Economic Research Institute, stated that in the past decade, China's domestic energy production has grown at an average annual rate of 4.7%, driving an average annual increase of 0.6 percentage points in energy self-sufficiency rate. In addition, in the past 10 years, the average annual decline in energy consumption intensity has been about 2.9%, supporting an economic growth rate of 5.6% with a 3.6% increase in energy consumption.
